Review :
I think the biggest hate for 3.0 comes from the fans who had to wait so long for a sequel – this movie is very brave, it takes the series in a completely different direction and creates a more original version of these remakes.
Unfortunately, such a sudden change is hard to pull off in just 90 minutes, especially when most of the movie is limited to slower scenes revolving around Shinji and Kaworu’s relationship. Also, the film ends on what appears to be a very abrupt closure, and it’s painfully clear that this was to be released with version 3.0+1.0.
The Last Nail in the Coffin didn’t really have anything to do with this movie though – which is why fans had to wait so long for a sequel – and it wasn’t until the next movie that many of the questions that annoying fans were asking began to be answered. 3.0 isn’t a great single video and certainly works better when 3.0 + 1.Shortly thereafter, 0 is displayed.
This movie is still a great movie though. The stunning visuals and soundtrack greatly enhance the 3.0 viewing experience, and the slower pace allows you to focus on the character-driven story, a unique change from the series. The animation is still great (the CGI isn’t that bad), and this alter–nate (but reminiscent) relationship between Shinji and Kaworu gives their characters a lot more depth.
